L'Shana Tova - Happy New Year
Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה), (literally "head of the year"), is the Jewish New Year. It is the first of the High Holidays or Yamim Noraim ("Days of Awe"), celebrated ten days before Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is observed on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. Join CSUN Hillel as we celebrate 5772 on Tuesday, September 27 from 5-7 p.m. at Hillel. There will be apples & honey, delicious desserts and a great discussion. Check out the Facebook event here.
What do you hope might be different about your life a year from now? This year, create a new High Holiday ritual for yourself. Reflect online with 10Q starting Sept. 28. Ten questions for reflection delivered to you online over 10 days, with your answers returned to you a year later. DoYou10Q.com

Judith Alban, Interim Executive Director judy@csunhillel.org
Judy began her work at CSUN Hillel in 2008. A graduate of UCLA with a BA in Religious Studies, an MSW from USC and a MAJCS from Hebrew Union College, Judy worked for Jewish Big Brothers as a clinician and later as the Director of Marketing and Communications. She then went on to Jewish Community Centers as Program Director for Valley Cities JCC. Judy also spent time as a mom to her two kids and served as Chairperson of the Nursery School, PTA Vice President, and on the Board of her synagogue at Temple Ahavat Shalom where she has been a life time member. In her spare time she is mom and wife and loves to spend time reading, playing Mah Jong, hanging out with friends and exploring Southern California. Her door is always open... although she may not get any work done! As an undergraduate she was active in Hillel and truly understands the value of what Hillel accomplishes. Judy says, "I love the students I see at CSUN. They make my job fun and it is why I enjoy coming to work every day. Stop by and say hi!"
Josh Fried, Engagement Director josh@csunhillel.org
A native of Oklahoma (yes, there are Jews there), Josh is a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma with degrees in French and Public Relations. He joined CSUN Hillel in August 2010 and enjoys the sunny weather here in Southern California. When he's not at Hillel you can find him cooking, exploring farmer's markets, drinking coffee, and enjoying brunch.
Veronika Kuznetsova, Israel Fellow veronika@csunhillel.org
Veronika was born in Belarus and she made Aliyah (emigrated to Israel) when she was 15 years old through the Na'ale Program, which helps teens make Aliyah without their parents (but don’t worry, her mother and brother joined her in Israel the next year). She served her military service as a Madricha (Instructor) of the Sar El Program, working with volunteers from all over the world. Veronika worked as a logistics instructor for the Jewish Agency in the Department of Aliyah Movement. She has served as an envoy to Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, teaching about Israel and promoting the Na’aleh Program. Veronika was chosen to the Youth Forum by Israel’s President, Mr. Shimon Peres, where she represented Russian-speaking Israelis for 2 years. She finished her B.A. in Political Science and she has earned her M.A. in International Relations. Veronika decided to stop her work in Prime Minister’s "Nativ" Office in the Department of Research in order to come to CSUN to work as an Israel Fellow. Veronika has many hobbies and interests, including traveling, reading, movies, and meeting new people, so make sure you come say hello!
